Advice From A Hairstylist

Carissa, with Rissa Rae Salon, is an amazing friend of mine, as well as an incredible hair stylist! She has a great love and passion for her work. I recently got a pretty dramatic haircut myself, which prompted me to ask her a few questions about hair...

Mrs. Wolf: "It's August and soon summer will be over, what are some of the more popular cuts and colors to look for in the fall?"

Carissa: "For fall we are still seeing lots of shorter/pixie cuts, as well as longer tousled waves. Lots of texture, volume and loose curls."

C: "As for color, rich brunettes and auburns will still be popular. Ombre will be around, but in a more subtle way. A trending style is lots of accessories (headbands, barrettes etc.)"

MW: "We just cut a good amount of my hair off... What is your best advice when it comes to styling a pixie cut?"

C: "Now for styling pixies, the messier the better. Utilize products like dry shampoo. Adding a little curl to the top will add volume and character. Don't shy away from hair accessories, and if the cut is short enough, you can style it into a pompadour/faux hawk."

MW: "What styling tip would you give to the guy who doesn't want to spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning?"

C: "My main styling tip for guys is to blow dry their hair. It doesn't take long, but it will make ALL the difference. Even if you shower at night, dampen and blow dry your hair in the morning. This will not only help achieve the desired shape, but it will improve the texture of your hair and make it much easier to work with when adding styling cream/pomade."
